Educational Music
from Elementary Teacher/Songwriter

Thom Miller

I've been a 4th grade elementary teacher for 7 years and a church worship leader for 5 years.  I've been playing guitar and writing songs for the past 13 years.  I have a wonderful wife, 2 terrific kids, and an energetic golden retriever.  I live in Nashville, Indiana and teach at Van Buren Elementary School.

I started writing educational songs when I first started teaching.  I love music, but I could not find a lot of songs that were "content-rich".  I started writing my own songs to enrich my instruction and have had great success with them.  I've had several former students tell me that they still remember songs they learned in my class years ago.  The songs are full of subject content and vocabulary so kids really learn a lot about the subject of the songs.  They're catchy, upbeat, original songs that really teach.

My goal in writing educational music is to create songs that have real meaning.  Songs are memorable so the words in the songs I write are carefully chosen to be meaningful.  I also strive to make the songs fluff-free (no wasted words).  These songs can be used with all ages, but my target age is kids grades 3-6.  These are songs for kids that don't sound like kid songs.  It's real music that teaches and can be enjoyed by all ages.

Thank you for your interest in this music, and I wish you all the best. - Thom
