My new CD, Singing the Basics, Intermediate Spanish, is now available. This CD will cover the more complex items typically taught in 2nd year Spanish, immediately forgotten, then re-taught in each subsequent year. You know what I'm talking about...Por/Para, Preterite/Imperfect, Preterite endings, Irregular Preterites, False Cognates, Ser and Estar, Comparatives, verbs like gustar, and more!

Por/Para: This song alone will be worth the price of the CD. It's a concise, foolproof system, set to music so that it's impossible to forget.

Preterite forms: Nothing too academic here, just a catchy tune to help remember the preterites.

Irregular Preterites: I listen to this song for enjoyment. Your students will want to do this one every day, and they may need to--you know how hard those irregulars can be!

Ser and Estar: Okay, this really belongs with the beginners' CD, but have your 2nd year students mastered it? I didn't think so. Teach it my way, and you'll never argue about temporary and permanent again!

All songs written by Todd Hawkins, copyright 2001.

False Cognates: This one will make grading essays much less stressful. You've told them, and told them, and told them...

Verbs like gustar: I call them "backward verbs". This song sorts it all out for students in a way that they won't be able to forget.

Comparatives: Jorge de la Selva returns for a reggae rap in Spanish using many different types of comparatives to tell how much greater he is than everyone else.

Preterite and Imperfect: Can there be too many songs about the preterite? Not 'til they learn them, I say.

Reflexives: I think this song gets to the heart of what students don't get about reflexive verbs.
